New Community, Ancient Place
A new community is growing and thriving in Chilmington Green. If you look at the modern landscape, it might seem as though this has never happened here before…but this could not be further from the truth! The construction of Chilmington Green and other nearby developments has given archaeologists a unique chance to investigate this landscape and demonstrate that it has been occupied for thousands of years. Prehistoric, Roman, medieval and post-medieval people lived, worked and worshipped here, leaving behind a trail of fascinating archaeological remains for us to explore. The 20th-century archaeological record is just as interesting, with Second World War structures spread throughout the landscape, including an airbase that played an important role in the D-day landings.

About Us
We are a collective of professional archaeologists from AOC Archaeology Group and volunteers from the Chilmington Green area. We have been commissioned by Kent County Council to bring the archaeology and history of Chilmington Green to life, for the benefit of everyone. Our project is generously funded by Hodson Developments, who we would like to thank for their help and support.
If you would like to join us, we are recruiting amateur archaeological researchers and historians of all ages. Check out our volunteering opportunities to help us bring the past, and the community, together!
